Why Join Citizens for a Healthy Bay?
· Because the birds, salmon and other wildlife in
Commencement Bay
have no voice of their own.
· Because we work for you and you need to be heard.
· Because government and special interests are powerful and
without joining
together in groups like CHB we cannot hope to compete with them.
Commencement Bay has already been radically altered by human activity. As such,
it exhibits many of the challenges facing all industrialized urban bays
including modified shorelines, a filled and channelized delta, degraded water
quality, and contaminated sediments. The good news is that the Superfund
Cleanup has addressed most of the historic problems. Now, the challenge is to
maintain and build on the gains that have been made while continuing to serve a
rapidly growing population.
