Habitat Restoration

Citizens for a Healthy Bay monitors and manages five NRDA habitat restoration sites on Commencement Bay. We offer many opportunities for volunteers to assist in restoration activities. Each month throughout the year we lead a different project. Activities include planting native plants, trash and debris removal, repair of goose exclusion fencing and the removal of invasive species such as Himalayan blackberry and Scotch broom. There are many options available no matter your age or commitment level. For upcoming projects contact Restoration Programs Manager, Jeanine Riss, at 253-383-2429 or jriss@healthybay.org.

If you are looking for an even greater commitment and want to delve into the details of restoration site maintenance, check the Adopt-A-Wildlife Area (AAWA) Habitat Stewardship Program. CHB provides specialized training and the opportunity to work with professionals monitoring restored mudflat/salt marsh habitat and working to return restoration sites to full “function and values” potential.
