WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE?

Environmental justice is the principle that all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income are entitled to equal environmental protection as well as equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment to live, learn, and play in.

ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE CAMP FOR GIRLS

Communities for a Healthy Bay partnered with the Tacoma Urban League to create a meaningful way for young girls to learn about environmental justice and access environmental education through our Environmental Justice Camp for Girls (EJCG).

By working with local community groups that represent the diversity of Tacoma, enables us to tailor our programs to fit the needs and interests of each community. Local scientists, educators, and passionate volunteers share their knowledge and experience in their respective fields, creating a network of mentorship and sense of community.

MOVING FORWARD

CHB will continue to expand the program with the hopes of collaborating with local community groups to provide free STEM-based learning opportunities to young women of color, ages 11-17. Whether it is advocacy, education, or environmental science, our goal is to expand what it means to be an environmentalist and have fun while doing so!
