Microplastics in the Salish Sea

Our Voices for a Thriving Future series brings community members together to explore the issues, species, and science shaping the health of Commencement Bay and the South Sound. Each lecture highlights local experts, elevates community knowledge, and connects people directly with the work happening to protect our waters and wildlife.
We’re excited to continue the series this spring with our next session, Microplastics in the Salish Sea! Our featured speaker is Julie Masura, Teaching Professor and Research Scientist at University of Washington Tacoma. Julie is a lecturer of Geoscience in Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences. Her field work has expanded to determining the concentrations of microplastics in the waters and she involves several students in her research work as well as partners with many environmental education groups throughout the region.
Her talk will highlight her research on microplastics in the waters of the Pacific Northwest and will provide guidance on actions to limit release of plastics into our waters. We hope you’ll join us and help spread the word as we continue learning together and uplifting the science that supports a thriving future for our region!
This is event is free and open to the public! No RSVP required.
