What We Do

Protecting Clean Water and Strengthening Communities

At Communities for a Healthy Bay (CHB), we take bold action to protect Commencement Bay, South Puget Sound, and the communities that depend on them. Through policy advocacy, legal enforcement, community engagement, and on-the-water patrols, we fight for a future where clean water, healthy ecosystems, and environmental justice are a reality for all.

Environmental Policy

We work with lawmakers, agencies, and community groups to push for stronger environmental regulations, sustainable development, and climate resilience policies. From fighting for stricter pollution controls to advocating for clean energy solutions, we ensure that policies protect both people and nature.

South Sound Patrols

CHB conducts weekly patrols of South Sound waters to identify and respond to pollution, monitor industrial sites, and advocate for stronger clean water protections. By keeping a watchful eye on our waterways, we hold polluters accountable and protect vital marine habitats.

Education & Engagement

We empower youth, residents, and businesses through community engagement events, volunteer opportunities, and environmental education programs. From lectures with environmental experts to hands-on youth programs, we offer many opportunities for the community to engage in environmental stewardship and advocacy.

Legal Action

Using the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and other key environmental laws, CHB fights for justice, accountability, and stronger environmental protections. We take legal action to stop pollution at its source, ensure compliance with environmental laws, and protect communities from environmental harm.
