Previous speakers in this series have alluded to an uncertain future that will demand gardeners be more sophisticated, innovative, and engaged as never before—more mindful of the complex interactions among plant and animals, more purposeful in our selection of plants, and more aware of the role our gardens play in social and ecological contexts. All gardens have specific characteristics that make them either resilient or vulnerable to stressors. We can improve the resiliency and function of our gardens by implementing actions to address the vulnerabilities. Those actions often mimic or are inspired by natural processes and importantly feature native plants.
